African Ethnic Paintings
Watercolors of African Tribes

Bushman Photos
Artist, Mike Elliott's prefered medium is watercolor. This combines well with pencil for his distinctive portrayal of the ethnic African Tribes of South Africa. His passion is for those legendary hunting people, the Bushman. Not a tribe but loosely knit groups of families and clans, within 4 large ethnic divisions.

The so called Bushman tribe do not really have a tribal structure. They have no Chief or Paramount leader, unlike the other African Tribes. Most decisions are made by group consensus based on general discussion by all. The opinions of the most learned amongst them are naturally given more weight in the decisions but amongst the Bushmen everybody is given time and space to give their views. The Bushmen of course spread far beyond South Africa into Namibia, Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Lesotho and Mozambique. The traditional lifestyle of hunting and gathering is now very rare but does occur in a few scattered outposts.

More African hunting scenes are on the Bushman Paintings Page
