Mike
is particularly well known for his Bushman paintings (Khoisan).
This very African art is a subtle blend of watercolor and pencil
which has been central to his unique style. Although he has
left Africa, now living in Scotland, his heart is still firmly
planted there.

Mike's
paintings are based on many golden hours spent with the Kwa
(Kalahari Bushmen) in Botswana which he visited regularly over
period of 12 years. The later years also included some magic
encounters with the Ju//wa, a !Kung Bushman tribe in Namibia.
Golden days indeed, but touched with a little sadness as these
Khoisan people were catapulted into the modern world at a pace
too too fast for cultural adjustment. The inevitable transitions
were too impatient to allow for social development without
destroying structures that have sustained man for 10 000 years
or more.
